Oct. 21,2012 Sunday...Army Veteran Nike Missile unveiling @ Battery A
Day #3 at the Nike Missile 50th reunion.
Today the focus was on the unveiling of the Nike missile in the barn at battery A, inside Everglades National Park.
Again, I heard a lot of great stories.
I would have to say that the stories that surprised me most, were of the men that were stationed here that did not know anything more than the job that they were assigned to.
One solder who was a military policeman never saw inside the barn where the missile was kept, even though he was the one who was patrolling it.
Again, Top Secret, need to know basis.
For the most part, the solders out there were lonely and just played a waiting game. No missile was ever fired from the base.
But the courage they all had to be there is something to be proud of.
There they were, if Cuba had sent enemy fire over south Florida, they were the first target.
Thank you to all the men & women that have, and currently serve in our military.
To keep us safe, and allow us the freedoms we enjoy.
